BIYS Challenge Day 5: A Love Letter to You as You Embark on this Journey

Updated: Aug 19, 2020

Today felt especially heavy as a Black Woman. @MayaAngelique on Twitter is still being harassed after almost two months by a black male celebrity and his followers for calling out colorism. She and her family has been sent rape and death threats, and she has publicly stated that if she ends up hurt it is his fault. My heart hurts, because I am witnessing first hand the public destruction of a black woman who did nothing but exist.

I wanted to end this week about overcoming our fears with quotes from celebrities about how they overcame theirs, but I’m instead going to end with sending words of encouragement and love to all my Black Women and Girls out there.

This world has so many weapons formed against your health and well-being. And I just want you to know that despite all the systems, institutions, and people that come against you, you deserve to live your life to its fullest extent.

You deserve to experience all the greatest things this life has to offer you; I promise. This life is yours and yours alone to live and God and the Angels are giving you divine guidance and protection.

It is so easy to succumb to fear. We’re Black AND Women, it doesn’t get much harder than that. Which is why it is that much important to live your life unapologetically. Wear that dress; make that video; quit that job. If it does not bring you happiness and fulfillment, swiftly remove it or them from your life. Your time on earth is too precious to be wasting it on people and activities that don’t bring you peace and joy.

I love you all from the bottom of my heart. You are the manifestation of your ancestors’ greatest achievements and traits. You have within you all that you seek to be and achieve in this lifetime. You are beauty realized inside and out, and you are divinely protected and encouraged to go after your dreams.

Love and Light,

Azé
